@Tim_Suttle @DanPriceSeattle @JimBarrows We share a concern for the least of our brothers, And I’d like to suggest public policies that could have permanent impact.
@mims Outstanding summary of the perils of being a low-skill worker in the current economy, but here’s my fundamental question: can active labor policies like Danish Flexicurity enable people to escape the low skill trap? https://t.co/wGie16Mgok
@realgabefried Never passed FDA trials. Also, keep in mind that social policy trials don’t have to be “America First.” https://t.co/wGie16Mgok
@LDrogen Throwing money at the problem doesn’t help workers transition away from low-wage retail/hospitality jobs that aren’t coming back anytime soon. We need intelligent active labor market policies like Denmark. https://t.co/wGie16Mgok

Assuming total recovery for retail and leisure/hospitality jobs seems totally unrealistic. Time to start building programs to help these displaced workers find productive employment. Look South Korea on public health, and Northern Europe for job training.
Solution #3: hospitality, retail, and travel jobs will not “snap back” to prior levels. Launch targeted training to help the unemployed gain skills to do jobs with growing demand. Rationalize state/federal programs and actively monitor what works. https:/
@ReformedBroker @philwahba Financial literacy is only relevant when you have finances. Young people need skills training like Swiss/German apprenticeship programs so that they’re hired in more productive and secure jobs than restaurant/retail/hospitality.
This paper suggests that the active labour market policy component of Flexicurity can be effective, but requires proper targeting and competent administration. Need to rationalize the state/federal US system and actively monitor what works. https://t.co/P

ALMP measures aimed at vulnerable populations are more effective than other ALMPs in terms of reducing unemployment and increasing employment, as research by @VeEscudero_ has shown. Effects are particularly positive for the low skilled. https://t.co/1UdGT

Redueixen més l'atur els ajuts a la creació d'empreses que la formació ocupacional. No em negareu que té la seva gràcia que la política activa més efectiva sigui bàsicament una transferència https://t.co/Be9fVIMhft
