Like humans, sifak brains need a good nights #sleep more than their nighttime active lemur cousins, even when all lemurs benefited from solid zzz's. Thanks to @DukeLemurCenter for supporting our (@AVining_Opining @CharlesNunn3) research project! https://

This was a fun one @ChrisKrupenye and we were both in Durham when I was creeping on lemurs voyeuristically at night to ensure they were getting effectively (yet ethically) #sleep deprived.

Here’s a study to share with those sleep-deprived primates taking final exams, based on experimental, within-subject design: “Our results suggest that ‘normal’ non-disrupted sleep improved memory consolidation for all lemurs.” @Primalprimate #lemurs @PhysA
Diurnal lemurs are more strongly affected by sleep deprivation than cathemeral (irregularly active) lemurs. All lemurs showed impairments to long-term memory and foraging efficiency after sleep impairment, but there were no detriments to self-control. http
