I wonder if there’s a connection with this recent article showing that moral self-judgment is stronger for future than past actions. Maybe the lack of affective component makes ppl more negatively-biased regarding morality https://t.co/pJLcUtLM6X
Good title. Though kind of “duh” for anyone who’s ever engaged in ex post rationalization? https://t.co/WrnT5TVO4A https://t.co/zFM5KCeROK
@ImanEurope saw some research recently that I think relates “across four studies (N = 915), people favored more extreme rewards and punishments for their future than their past actions.” https://t.co/sEjA3St509 present difficulty speaks to the possibility
Very interesting research paper. Moralizing increases when seen as a potential guide for action. Looks like a variant on neuroscientist David Rioch's maxim: “What you see is what you intend to do about it”.
Cool. People’s sense of their future self is a fascinating topic. I believe people also believe their future self will want to eat in a more healthy way (or with more variety) then he/she will actually want to.

“The findings fit the pragmatic view that people moralize the future partly to guide their choices and actions, such as by increasing their motivation to restrain selfish impulses and build long-term cooperative relationships with others.”
