this is the reason why I hate the fact that almost all C codebases are filled with "hacks" and "clever tricks" that make the code unreadable. Why hasn't anyone made some "strict" tool like "gofmt" to prevent this?

I once wrote code like this: if(a = b * c, func(a, x)) { // ... } else if (d = e * f, func(d, y)) { // ... } I think the idea was to only set "d" if the else if block was executed but I mean really wtf were you thinking, old me?
