@sbkaufman A bit misleading. Ayumu (monkey in vid) had 1000s of trials over several yrs on that same task while the human subjects had none. Vids only show the most successful trials. When humans were given similar training, they showed similar performance

@abledoc @rjsh927 @nntaleb This is going a bit far- in other studies humans have matched the results of the best chimps. Familiarity with the task is key. Original study had trained chimps vs humans seeing the test for the first time. https://t.co/RPe1
@BrianRoemmele @SharonRedrobe as for "dubious paper" (all the tricks, eh?): there are two, actually, proving the original interpretation (which you still hold on to) to be false. In a field that doesnt often do replications this is extremely clear evidenc
And here for @BrianRoemmele too @Ben_garrod
@BenCuthbert4 https://t.co/mEVk0lv8VT Apparently it's a training effect.
Super interesting research about chimp short term memory vs human, but there’s another study showing there’s no difference when humans are given the same amount of time to practice the task. https://t.co/zn4apo6dPy https://t.co/mFoxZ3Lros

I got interested & dug a bit deeper. Looks like this might all be wrong. The chimps outperform the humans because the former received training for this task & the latter did not. Given same level of training, the human is as good as the chimp. See

What do people gain from spreading blatant misinformation about chimpanzees (!)? 37K likes apparently. As many have pointed out before me, the referenced study is flawed (https://t.co/6j1qwPnly5) but the criminally simplified view of brain evolution here
