I'm not sure how I feel about these data. I do wonder how this change, because it is a change, has impacted thr research.

Interesting: Apperantly 14 is the magic number of papers to get a first tenure track associate professorship (somewhat comparable to W1 junior professorship in Germany). Does this match your experience in the German market?

I’m a postdoc with 19 pubs, including 15 first author publications and two solo-author publications, all in good journals. Last week a grant reviewer was highly critical of my track record. Others tell me I need to publish more. 🤷♂️

For a postdoc in my lab, I want skills in coding, stats, data handling, and high integrity. I don’t care how many pubs you have. For faculty job, I look for a couple of first author high quality, substantive articles. I don’t think # of articles really mat

My aim is for my PhD students to have 3 first author high quality papers upon graduation and post docs to submit 2 papers per year when in the lab. Assistant professors should aim to publish 2-3 papers per year. This metric has not changed for me in decade

Lots of discussion about publication rates (#gradpubgate), here are statistics from a large study of Psychology programs: grad students average 5 pubs at end of PhD (2 first-authored), postdocs ~8 pubs, tenure-track Assistant Prof job = avg 14 pubs (1/5) h
Graduate students published on average 2.89 (self-report) to 3.08 (CV report) papers, post-doctoral fellows on average published 8.06 papers, and junior professors on average had 14.30 publications before they were hired https://t.co/5kCo6I3LgG
On the heels of my incredulity...this study found people in psych average 14 pubs before hired as faculty 😳https://t.co/rCl6rWP2zL
I find myself behind on the publication trajectory. Does anyone else feel behind as a graduate student? #academia #phdlife https://t.co/b9k03uJYqs
A paper by @chris_altus found that junior professors in psych hired in 2013 or after have an average of 15.71 (8.00 first-author) publications if they did a postdoc. That number is probably the same or higher now. 3/10 https://t.co/DMX2zcoT3A
