@Greatceasersgst @wsbgnl It has to be outside the equivalence margin for the placebo. So the 3 mcg didn’t work great in 2-5 with 2 doses, they want to test 3rd dose. But FDA could and should extend EUA on 10mcg, 2 doses to kids over 2. https://t.co/rELoG9U
@actpredictlab @lakens A one-sided equivalence test is commonly known as a non-inferiority test; see https://t.co/nhYDEx8uHe

Studies aiming to show a lack of difference are often done in an effort to make the case for a putatively riskier option. So approaching it this way is very bad. There are more correct ways of doing it, e.g. https://t.co/RmgBp0EwBq

Testing for equivalence? This paper describes the super useful TOST procedure with a great commentary on the statistical method. Thanks to @FILWD for finding and sharing!

A large P-value (>0.05) should not be interpreted as "there is no difference". It suggests the "absence of evidence of a difference". These are quite different statements. Maybe the sample size is not sufficient to detect a small difference.

With tweets on recent ID outcome studies, it's a good time to know about this really interesting paper that details these often loosely (and incorrectly) used terms. Claiming these outcomes is hard! Understanding Equivalence and Noninferiority Testing http
